Company Portrait
In its first five years TEI Energy SpA became an established player in the French and Italian wholesale power markets and started commercial operation of its first power plant, which it developed and built in conjunction with the local municipal utility.
As the European wholesale markets continued to deregulate and develop and TEI's business grew. In consideration of this, the management of the Trafigura Group and TEI Energy SpA agreed that an MBO was the best strategy forward in order to open up other possibilities of capital required for future asset investments and thus in 2007 there was a management buyout of TEI Energy SpA.
Present
The TEI Group has continued to expand its presence in the European wholesale power markets, first establishing the Group's headquarters in Milan, Italy and then opening local offices in Germany, Greece and Slovenia with particular emphasis on recruiting local expertise. TEI Energy SpA now trades power in seven European wholesale markets and is looking to continue this expansion into the Balkans region. Further TEI Energy SpA has broadened its trading portfolio to include CO2, GoOs, Green Certificates, natural gas and oil derivatives.
TEI's asset development program also continues apace, with the start of construction of a second ccgt in the Chianti Region, a joint venture with Enel SpA and Acegas for the development and construction of several Merchant Line Interconnectors in northern Italy as well as the construction of several photovoltaic farms in southern Italy.
